Art projects

Since the very start of Kapelica Gallery, we have been on the pulse of the artistic avantgarde that has thematised the effects of new technology on modern society. At the gallery in recent years, we have placed a greater emphasis on the artwork of artists who are interested in cybernetics and biotechnology as fields that most radically alter our understanding of the animate and life itself. Working with living systems requires a different artistic approach, collaboration with scientists and researchers, as well as having the appropriate production and laboratory conditions.

At BioTehna, we provide artistic projects that are developed and presented in the production of the Kersnikova Institute comprehensive support in their investigation, preparation and execution with professional associates and the use of the laboratory and gallery infrastructure. We also offer the opportunity to collaborate and co-produce all other initiatives and artistic projects that are not necessarily connected to our artistic programme and which the programme committee of the institute recognises as a relevant contribution to the development of contemporary investigative art.

Since 2012, when we established the BioTehna laboratory, we have enabled the development and execution of a number of complex artistic productions for which its authors received prestigious awards at some of the most important international festivals and art venues.

At the lab, we have been inspired by the artistic work of: Brandon Ballengée, Guy Ben-Ary, Anna Dumitriu, Anthony Hall, Charlotte Jarvis, Špela Petrič, Quimera Rosa, Theresa Schubert, Maja Smrekar, Zoran Srdić Janežič, Robertina Šebjanič, Saša Spačal & Mirjan Švagelj, Mojca Založnik, Adam Zaretsky…
