ABOUT THE PROJECT

Ana Smerdu

Data visualization with Arduino

During this workshop, the girls became familiar with Arduino programming, sensority, Processing programming and the visualization of given data.

The workshop was carried out in two segments. In the introductory part, the mentor outlined the history of the visualization of data. In the following theoretical part, she introduced the Arduino platform, the workings of sensors and of other tools required for data gathering with sensors. The participants then built sensors that they connected to a computer to monitor data.

In the second part, the mentor introduced the Processing programming language and various examples of data visualization. The participants then wrote/modified code to produce their desired visual representation of data based on a few given examples. Finally, they connected the Arduino to their program, so that their visualization behaved based on the data gathered by the sensor.
